About RepairClue

RepairClue is an independent home repair reference for homeowners and renters in the United States. It is written and maintained by Kadir Özbek, who runs it as a small independent publisher. The site is not owned by a manufacturer, retailer or contractor network, and no brand pays to be mentioned in a guide.

Why this site exists

Most repair guides jump straight to a fix. In practice, the most expensive mistake in home repair is replacing the wrong part: a new fill valve when the flapper was leaking, a new thermostat when the furnace filter was clogged. RepairClue guides are built around that problem. Each one starts with a few questions that separate the likely causes, and only then explains how to fix each cause.

What you will find in a guide

Who writes the guides

Kadir Özbek researches, writes and updates every guide. He is not a licensed plumber, electrician or HVAC technician, and the site does not claim to be. Guides are compiled from manufacturer installation and service instructions, guidance published by public agencies such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, and widely documented repair practice. How that research is done is described on the methodology page, and the rules for corrections and independence are on the editorial policy page.

What RepairClue is not

RepairClue is not a contractor, a referral service or a substitute for a licensed professional. Local building codes, permit rules and the specific model you own can change the right answer. When a guide says a job needs a pro, that is a safety judgment, not a sales pitch.
